SRS Badger

Privacy Policy

Last updated 4 October 2026

SRS Badger is a small, independent app. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version: we collect what we need to run the app. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use tracking cookies. You can download your data or have it deleted at any time.

What we collect

Your account. Your email address, and your password if you set one. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash, so we can't see them. If you use the app without an account (as a guest), we don't know who you are.

What you make and do in the app. Your courses and cards, your settings, and your review history: when you reviewed each card and how you rated it. On cards that check your answer, we also keep what you typed or chose.

Basic technical information. Your IP address and similar details that come with every request. We use these to keep the service secure and prevent abuse, for example by limiting how many sign-in emails can be requested from one place, and we keep them only briefly. We also record roughly when you last used the app.

One cookie. A single cookie keeps you signed in. It isn't used for anything else.

On your own device. Your browser also stores a few things locally, such as your light or dark theme and unsaved work in the Sandbox. That stays on your device.

Code you run

For Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL and C#, your code runs entirely in your browser and is never sent to us.

For Rust, Go and C, your code is sent to our compile server to be built, and deleted as soon as the build finishes. The program itself then runs in your browser.

How we use it

To run the app: signing you in, saving your work, scheduling your reviews, sending the emails you ask for (sign-in links, password resets and email confirmation), keeping things secure, and managing your plan if you buy one.

We also look at overall usage, like how many people signed up this week or how many cards are being reviewed, to understand how the app is used and improve it.

We don't look at your cards or answers except when we need to: to fix a problem you've reported, to keep the service running, or to deal with abuse or a legal requirement.

Who can see your information

Coaches, if you join a class. When you join a class through its link, the coach sees your email address and your progress on that one course, including your answers on it. You're told this before you join, and you can stop sharing at any time from the course page. Your other courses stay private.

People you share a course with. If you share a course, anyone with the link can see the course itself. You can see how many people have added it, but not who they are.

Service providers. A small number of companies help us run the app: our hosting provider, an email provider that sends account emails, and a payment processor if you buy a plan. They only handle your information on our behalf, to provide those services. If you pay, your card details go straight to the payment processor; we never see them.

When the law requires it. We'll share information only if we're legally required to.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers.

Where it's stored

Your information is stored on servers that may be outside your province or country. When it is, it's subject to the laws of the place where it's stored.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as you have an account. Guest data that hasn't been used for a while may be deleted.

When you delete your account, we remove your information from our systems right away. Copies in backups are deleted as those backups expire, within 30 days.

Your choices

  • Download your data: Settings → Download my data gives you everything as a single file, any time.
  • Correct or delete it: email us and we'll update it, or delete your account and everything in it within 30 days.
  • Stop sharing: leave a class at any time from the course page. You keep the course.
  • Ask what we have: email us and we'll tell you what we hold about you.

Children

Students may use SRS Badger through a coach or teacher. If you're under 13, you need permission from a parent or guardian to use it. Coaches who invite students under 13 are responsible for getting that permission. If you think a child is using SRS Badger without it, contact us and we'll delete the account.

Security

Passwords and sign-in sessions are stored only as secure hashes, connections are encrypted, and code from cards runs in an isolated part of your browser that can't access your account. No system is perfectly secure, but we take it seriously and will tell you if a breach affects your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll change the date at the top, and if a change is significant, we'll let you know by email or in the app before it takes effect.
